The power trio is one of rock and roll's creatures of rare beauty. The Gories, Husker Du, The Minutemen, The Oblivians and Minneapolis' finest, Halo of Flies. Pick'n'mix guitar on top of a bed of solid, pounding rhythm foundation and take turns at singing. Enjoy.

This is a bootleg of a single released by Forced Exposure magazine. It's not clear if the short version of 'Ballad of Extreme Hate' which is included on this release was on the original or not. The song isn't mentioned on the sleeve of either and it appears the band's discographers have chosen to take the record sleeves as gospel rather than Listen To The Fucking Record. If you have the original version, please put me out of my misery and let me know.

Halo of Flies / Mudhoney - Big Mod Showdown 7"

One from the ever-collectable Amphetamine Reptile Records, except I think that of the 'good' records they released (and they didn't half chuck out some metallic dirge towards the end) this is the easiest to find. AMRep house-band and uptight 'Mod' noise combo Halo of Flies kick in with a John's Children cover. Seattle Grungeniks (c. every music reviewer in the universe circa 1988) Mudhoney choose the easier option with their take on William Hampshire's paean to Gary Puckett and The Union Gap.
