The Car Thieves inferior release on Radio X. Just plain excellent garage and trash here. Their stupendously good surf single on Planet Pimp sounds like it was recorded by a different band. Enjoy.

More tuneless kerfuffle from the heart of South City. This time released on Darin Rafaelli's Radio X label, as was their debut LP. Purists may want to look away now as I'm going to reveal that I have tinkered with this upload by way of an experiment. I was getting tired of having to sit through The Brentwoods' schtick of having loads of narrative build up to their songs, so I've cut it all away and just left the songs. But ... in order to please everybody I've also included the songs exactly as they appear on the record, with long am-dram intros and a fake radio advert for the LP. So, to clarify, when you unzip this there will be four tracks, not two. What you do with them is up to you. Enjoy.

Sometimes something is less than the sum of its parts. This band features three Trashwomen and one Mummy/Go-Nut, was recorded by Darin 'Colonel Brain' Rafaelli at Radio X studios, and has sleeve notes by Michael 'JP Gutrock' Lucas. What comes out is the result of one cross-breeding experiment too far. A lazy mess. That said, as I've hardly ever played it, this copy doesn't crackle and pop too much. Just a bit.

More from this band when I post their Repent material. From what I remember, it's much better. Let's just wait and see...

The Count Backwards - Double Decker Bus / Bad Little Woman. Big City 7".

Just in time for Christmas, it's Supercharger. If I had to pick one single that exemplified the whole early 90s garage scene this would be it. Two tracks on one side, beautifully sloppy graphics on the sleeve, and completely apt 'production' from Trent Ruane.

Supercharger - Icepick / I Want It Bad. Pre-BS single.

The Vulcaneers - Last Call. Radio X 7" RX06

Star Trek-themed Surf trash on Radio X. Between these, Thee Shatners and The Apemen, the Star Trek/Surf music crossover crowd are well catered for. The A-side is the sound of a Klingon Bar Man calling Last Orders; no 'Time, Gentlemen, please" here. The flip is an instrumental. I have an LP by this lot on Repent which I will post at some point. They also released a second 7" on Radio X, but I don't own it.

A full LP for a change, and one of the most sought-after rarities of the Budget Rock scene. Following the acrimonious split-up of Supercharger, Greg Lowery started The Rip-Offs with the White brothers, Jason and Shane, and drummer Jon Von and Darin Rafaelli and Karen Singletary kick-started The Brentwoods with the mysterious Patty on vocals and Danielle Pimm of The Trashwomen on bass. Somewhere along the line Dr. Pat Phelan late of The Saturn V featuring Orbit joined in, but details of who played what, where and when is lost to known civilisation.  Click on the image of the front cover to read the story of Colonel Brain's ruckus with 'The Riff-Raffs'.

It's an acquired taste and very much the logical end-point of the Supercharger sound. The Brentwoods are to Supercharger as Loli and The Chones would be to The Rip-Offs; sonic extremes.  Anyhow, if you like badly-recorded, badly-played, badly-sung, immature shite then this is the record for you.

The Brentwoods - Fun In South City. Radio X LP. RX-05.
