Canada vs. Japan. Bum cover Don't Come Close To Me by Teengenerate, Teengenerate cover A Promise Is A Promise by Bum and both bands cough up a version of one of their own songs. This double 7" was released by Lance Rock Records in 1994. Enjoy.

An all-female Japanese guitar band who took their name from the The Flamin' Groovies' first LP. Does this stuff get any more 'niche'? Probably. They released their first LP on Sub Pop and their second on Sympathy For The Record Industry. More? The two songs on the flipside are, of course, Sonics covers. And now? Well, not now, but more recently they ceased being an all-female band and feature Shoe on drums and Marky on guitar. That's Shoe from Teengenerate. And Marky, who is no doubt some Japanese kid who yearns for The Ramones. Enjoy.

Screaming Bloody Marys are the curiosity here, and possibly the reason for many to download this, given the two Teengenerate tracks are on the Smash Hits LP (that said, they don't benefit from proper 7" mastering and crackle on that compilation). The first SBM track, 'Junior', is about the Peter Bagge character from Neat Stuff comic. I tried to use Google Image to find a picture of Junior as I can't be arsed scanning a picture, but nothing particularly great came up apart from the picture below which shows up if you search for 'Peter Bagge Junior'. It's The Bionic Man with Big Foot. The real Big Foot, not the fake one from that Super 8 Footage.
The real peach of this download is Teengenerate owning The Nervous Eaters' 'Just Head', but you knew that already. We're in Sinatra Sings Cole Porter territory. Enjoy.

Something about this band reminds me of Teengenerate; it's not just the speed, or the biscuit tin drums. It's the sound of somebody singing in a language which is not his own. Which is weird because, as far as I can ascertain, The Seculars were from the USA where they speak a version of The King's English. This appears to be the only thing they ever released and is on, as pointed out by the old Static Party blog, a label mainly devoted to second division winkle-picker bands. And one first division winkle-picker band. Static Party also points out that most copies are promo-punched. As you can see, my copy is also. That's because I was sent it as a promo. The first two tracks are so closely merged I've left them in one file. The girl on the front looks like a young Angela Rippon. Enjoy.

No image, so here's a 'video' of UJ3RK5 doing the original version of 'Eisenhower and The Hippies' which Man Or Astro-Man cover almost note for note. Oh Canaduh is an LP of 90s surf, punk and garage rock bands covering Canadian New Wave Hits of the late 70s and early 80s. What makes it better than so many 'cover' LPs is that rather than just looking at one act - Link Wray or Sam The Sham, for example - where the choice can get a bit thin, there is an opening up and the opportunity to cover one band's best song. And there are a lot of best songs on this brilliant record. I'd love to hear all the originals.

Track-listing (original artists listed at the end):

1. Teengenerate: Top Down (Teenage Head)
2. Bum: Screaming Fist (Viletones)
3. Lord High Fixers: Fuck You (Subhumans)
4. The Tonics: I Hate Music (K-Tels)
5. Young Fresh Fellows: Disco Sucks (D.O.A.)
6. The Smugglers: What Do You Want Me To Do (Pointed Sticks)
7. Al Perry: Fun While It Lasts (Active Dog)
8. Fastbacks: Won't Have To Worry (Modernettes)
9. Supersnazz: I Don't Love You (Dishrags)
10. Evaporators: I Can't Puke (The Dry Heaves)
11. Man Or Astroman?: Eisenhower & The Hippies (U-J3RK5)
12. The Onyas: I Don't Give A Shit (The Biz)
13. The Cryin' Out Louds: Now I Ain't Got No Face (No Fun)
14. The Stupes: American Bandstand (Infamous Scientists)
15. Nardwuar The Human Serviette - Secret Track (?)

I'd like to hope that the term Sex Cow is some kind of bad, bad Japenglish translation. If not, what does it mean? A-side is a Teengenerate original, complete with daft arse title, B-side is a Larry Williams cover. Enjoy.

Teengenerate? Again? So soon? I know. The truth is that this particular slice of Franco-Nippon/Belgique excellence would have been posted up here last year but for the fact that Bloody Belgium kept bloody jumping. I persevered by playing it through on 33rpm and it seemed to clear whatever it was. So, here, for you is one of The Greatest Singles Ever Released. Teengenerate playing three songs by vintage Belgian punk band, The Kids. Steve Baise from The Devil Dogs dishes up the vocals on Do You Wanna Know?

It's like all your Christmas's coming at once. Two of the finest 90s garage punk bands on a package as compact as you'd want it without getting all silver and pointless. The Rip-Offs tracks have never been reissued. The Teengenerate tracks have. Or were from earlier sources. Unless they are different versions of those previously and subsequently released, of course. If any of you have a clue about any of this, please let us all know. In the meantime, get stuck into this beauty.
