Halo of Flies / Mudhoney - Big Mod Showdown 7"

One from the ever-collectable Amphetamine Reptile Records, except I think that of the 'good' records they released (and they didn't half chuck out some metallic dirge towards the end) this is the easiest to find. AMRep house-band and uptight 'Mod' noise combo Halo of Flies kick in with a John's Children cover. Seattle Grungeniks (c. every music reviewer in the universe circa 1988) Mudhoney choose the easier option with their take on William Hampshire's paean to Gary Puckett and The Union Gap.

The Statics - Super Electro Records EP.

The Statics were a bunch of kids, mainly Master Zack Hoppenrath, from Seattle who charmed the cynics of the garage punk scene into releasing their music. In this case, Steve Turner out of Mudhoney, who released this EP on his very own Super Electro Sound Recordings label. The sound is very much that William Hampshire-inspired Seattle garage sound. Comes complete with a cover of the Supercharger 'standard' (arf) Sooprize Package for Mr. Mineo.

There were four of these Puget Power volumes in the end. Released by Regal Select Records, who were in on The Mummies and Thee Headcoats early on. Their 'Girl From '62' release from Billy and The Boys being far and away my favourite from the 10,000 singles released by that particular Childish incarnation. The highlight of this release for me is The Night Kings ode to coffee, 'Black Fluid', although Rancid Vat covering Adrian Street's 'Breakin' Bones' is pretty sweet.
