Die Mummies - Party At Steve's House - Pin-Up Records LP Pin Up 94012.

The most blatant manifestation of the 'Euro Mummies', this LP on Germany's Pin-Up Records has never been released on CD or made available for official download. It's by no means perfect. The band sound bored, louche even, and the choice of covers is as poor as the decision to try to make this sound like a live LP by dubbing in crowd sounds between each track.

The introduction of saxaphone on some tracks provides a new spin on The Mummies' schtick, but it's undermined by the overall laziness of this release. Compare this with Never Been Caught to see what I mean.

The Mummies - Gwendolyn - Pin-Up Records 94014

The continuing adventures of Mad Mummies March brings us this single released on Germany's Pin-Up Records. A 7" back-up to that record's more mature, honking sax sound, the A-side was a Mummies original, the flip side was a ripped from the LP cover of The Tidal Waves' Big Boy Pete. As with the rest of the Party At Steve's House LP this has never been officially released on the crappy CD format.

Another LP. I can't find a large enough scan of the cover of this one and my own attempts at photographing ten and twelve inch releases were laughably bad, so instead here's some great footage of two of the acts on this LP, The Astronauts and The Trashwomen. The Astronauts were from Germany and can be seen here performing the theme from the hit German TV show, Die Munsters. The Trashwomen treat us to Let's Go, which was simultaneously released, to worldwide acclaim, by German label Pin-Up and US label Repent.

Other acts on here include Sir Bald Diddley and his Right Honourable Big Wigs, Los Kogas, The Finks, The Surf Trio, The Apemen and The Green Hornets. All worthy of your attention. I'm sure there must be a full track-listing out there somewhere...

Inside front

No self-respecting garage-focussed site would be complete with out a little childishness here and there. So, here's the first bit from these quarters. I got rid of a lot of rare Childish material a few years back but, regretably, did not keep digital copies. That said, I still have more of his stuff hanging around the house than I ever would of The Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros, or whatever other trendy bunch of mother-bangers have replaced Dark Side of the Moon in the car stereo of the urban cool cat.

This is said to contain 'four rare tracks' and is sourced from three different recording sessions, but this is Billy 'Billions of Versions' Childish and I'm damned if I'm going to even attempt to mine backwards to discover where, or if, these songs were previously issued.  It's good, it's raw, it's The Milkshakes. Enjoy.

The Astronauts - War Of The Satellites. Shot Down Records. Shot 3.

One of a billion bands called The Astronauts, this bunch were from Germany, are still going, and are fantastic. They also play beautifully raw surf music. I saw them the day after Kurt Cobain died, supporting The Phantom Surfers in the cavernous but tiny nightclub built into the frontage of Euston railway station in London. (Out of Marks and Spencers, towards Euston Road, on the left and upstairs. I think it's an okay-for-London Fullers pub now). They wore space-men outfits and were super tight. I regret not interviewing them, but I was a. excited about seeing The Phantom Surfers for the first time and b. too drunk.
