The Fall-Outs - The Fall-Outs. Sub Pop / Super Electro LP. Super 02.

This is the first LP proper by these mainstays of the Seattle garage / Mod scene. It was issued by Steve Turner on his Super Electro imprint, with distribution by his then label, Sub Pop. The band plays a kind of pounding 60s-influenced guitar pop. A sunnier take on The Swinging Neckbreakers, but with fewer pairs of winklepickers. I've their Estrus-released singles collection primed and ready to go if this one takes anybody's particular fancy, and I'm fairly sure I have their second Super Electro LP release, Sleep, on the shelves. Seaweed - Bill. Sub Pop 7". SP141

I've got to be honest, my terms of reference for Seaweed are lost in the mists of time. I can't remember what they are. They sound like pop would have sounded if the much touted Grunge revolution had really made one bit of difference, but it didn't so they're kind of in limbo. The flipside in particular is the sound of nothing. The a-side, Bill, makes me think of skater 'dudes' in baseball caps, long shorts and the thing some singers do with the microphone where they hold it in their hand above their head and sing as if somebody has set the mike stand too high. What? It makes sense to me. Enjoy.

Supersuckers - She's My Bitch. Sub Pop 7". SP225.

Never ones for subtlety, Supersuckers present their tender side on the A-side of this 1993 release. It's a better, less adorned, more sonically-original version than the one on La Mano Cornuda. The b-side is an acoustic knock-off 'recorded in a van on the highway somewhere'. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it. Anyhow, in celebration of February 29th, the day 'the gals' are supposed to propose to 'the guys', here's a tender sweet love song. Enjoy.

Nine tracks of bootleggy goodness from everybody's favourite perverts, The Dwarves. I say bootleggy because the legal status of this record, and its sister release, Tooling For A Warm Tea Bag, has never been clear. Some, maybe all, of the tracks come from radio broadcasts, but the source is much clearer than that of some other FM-sourced bootlegs, which suggests somebody near the band had a hold of a pre-FM master of the material. Anyway, it's The Dwarves at their juvenile best. Enjoy.

The final Puget Power compilation and the final release on Regal Select. The Statics and The Sinister Six are the box office pull on this release, although Flathead bring some kudos earnt from the garage cogniscenti's appreciation of their split single with The Gorls. And, before you ask, I had it, I sold it. Something had to give. More Statics soon. Enjoy.

What's the point of setting up a fight if there's no way to resolve it? Who wins this particularly pointless battle? Both sides have one 'heavyweight' (and I bet that's the first time The Statics were ever, without irony, referred to as a Seattle 'heavyweight') and one hanger-on. I'm not even sure of the covers to originals ratio on this. Jack O'Fire take on Sonny Boy Williamson's Western Arizona, The Statics amplify their Billy Childish fetish by covering his Kinds of Women (which he no doubt lifted from some other source, light-fingered and unacknowledged). The Primate 5 and The Inhalants? Who knows? I suspect it's their own material as they are the support acts and they have songs to burn. The second release on this label was a Japanese Tour 7" by The Statics. If anybody has it, please share. I'd love to hear Hoppenrath's take on Loli and the Chones' I Hate Your Guts. The Sinister Six - Deloused. Bag of Hammers 7" BOH04.

Part of the great Seattle Garage Rush of the early 1990s, The Sinister Six were a band led by James Burdyshaw, who I thought was something to do with Bag of Hammers records, but I can't find anything to back this up. However, he and many other members of The Sinister Six also played in Yummy, who shared a split with The Sinister Six. It's a classic slice of garage/grunge/guitar pop.
